Monroe County Illinois

Monroe County was established January 6, 1816 before Illinois became a state. It was once a part of Randolph and St. Clair Counties. The Monroe County seat was originally Harrisonville from 1816 to 1825, and is now Waterloo 1825-present and was named for James Monroe, 5th president of the United States.

The counties surrounding Monroe County are St. Clair and Randolph.

Welcome to the Monroe County, Illinois site, my name is Sharon , I am the coordinator for the Monroe County website.  I look forward to seeing this site grow. I am very interested in Monroe County, my maternal grandparents like their parents before them were from this area, they began arriving here in the mid 1800's from various areas in Germany and many of their descendants are still living here.

I hope some of you will be interested in volunteering and or sharing any interesting information, pictures, obits, news articles or any data pertaining to Monroe County. I would like to honor our soldiers from the various wars by adding pictures and a short bio. To volunteer or submit data please email me. I welcome any and all suggestions from you.
